Anita Joyce Stephenson

Anita Joyce Stephenson, age 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at her home. Anita was born May 12, 1931 in Judson, Indiana to the late Lon Lee and Beulah (Lightle) Back. She was a graduate of Green Township High School. Anita worked most of her life as a supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service.

On November 22, 1977 she married Robert L. Stephenson at Greenwood United Methodist Church. She was one to always put the needs of others before her own. Her and Bob were dedicated volunteers for many organizations over the years. They were especially proud to have been volunteers and ambassadors for the state of Indiana with the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Pan American Games in 1987, the Broadmoor Golf Club and St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Anita loved being active in her community and was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Twin Lakes Golf Club, a 30 year season ticket holder of our Indianapolis Colts and season ticket holder of our Indiana Pacers. She loved sports of all sorts and was also a big fan of Duke Basketball and retired coach, Mike Krzyzewski.

Anita was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Stan Thompson and Steven Thompson and dear grandson, Kevin O'Connell.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert L. "Bob" Stephenson; loving daughter, Sandy (Doug) Dorrell; dear daughter-in-law, Deanna (Keith) Kindsvatter; grateful grandchildren, Eric O'Connell, Brittany O'Connell, Sheena (Brett) Widner and Jacob Thompson; dear great-grandchildren, Sophia Thompson, Brooke & Brandt Widner and Lucy Fraiser.

Memorial contributions in Anita's name are suggested to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or to Scottish Rite Cathedral.
