With deep sorrow, yet peaceful hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Weaver Schnorr, who entered eternal rest on September 23 at the age of 85. A devout Catholic and a woman of profound grace, Barbara lived her faith through the love, kindness, and compassion she extended to everyone she met. Her gentle spirit and steadfast devotion leave a lasting legacy for her family and all who knew her.
Barbara was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, nana, great-grandmother, and friend. She cared for others with extraordinary kindness, nurtured her family with quiet strength, and placed her unwavering faith at the heart of all she did.
Barbara was born on July 31 in Indianapolis to Robert and Virginia Weaver. She was a loving big sister to her brother, Tom, and her sister, Sandi.
Barbara attended St. Joan of Arc and St. Agnes before graduating from Broad Ripple High School. She then attended Indiana University in Bloomington but returned home to work before completing her degree. Years later, after her daughters were grown, she resumed her studies through evening classes at Indiana University Kokomo. In 1999, she proudly fulfilled her goal of becoming an IU graduate.
Barbara married the love of her life, Bill, on November 28, 1964. Over more than 60 years of marriage, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Barbara embraced one of her greatest joys—motherhood—when she and Bill welcomed their daughters, Debbie and Kathie.
Barbara treasured family vacations and spent many happy days camping at Lake Monroe, Kentucky Lake, and Tippecanoe. Bill taught her to fish, and those summer trips became cherished family memories filled with camping, boating, water skiing, and time together outdoors.
Barbara loved attending races with Bill. Their earliest outings took them to the Indianapolis Speedrome, and their shared interest later became treasured family trips to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500, the Brickyard, and the Grand Prix. When Bill returned to racing TQ midget cars with UMRA, Barbara faithfully supported him. On many weekends, she provided food for guests at the track and watched nervously as he raced, praying he would not flip his car in the fourth turn. Needless to say, she was relieved when he eventually stepped away from racing.
Barbara and Bill built a country log cabin in Southern Indiana, where they spent many happy days walking the property, birdwatching, taking photographs, and enjoying nature together.
Barbara was creative and gifted with her hands, and she shared those gifts generously with her family. She sewed matching Easter and Christmas dresses for her girls, crafted Christmas gifts for loved ones, and learned from her grandmother how to can vegetables from the garden. A wonderful cook and baker, she also made homemade birthday cakes for family members and filled each Christmas with special cookies and treats.
A lifelong animal lover, Barbara shared her home with many cats and dogs over the years. She was especially content with a cat curled up on her lap as she read—one of her happiest places.
Barbara worked at L. S. Ayres before becoming an executive assistant at Stokely-Van Camp and Indiana Bell. She concluded her career at Industrial Dielectrics, where she worked for more than 20 years before retiring.
Barbara devoted countless hours to serving others. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County, 40 Days, and the Altar Rosary Society at Our Lady of Grace. Her commitment to the Altar Rosary Society included serving as secretary, treasurer, and president, and she generously gave her time wherever the society and parish needed her.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Deborah (Angel) Anez and Kathryn (Joel) Rickard; her granddaughters, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Leisure and Alyssa (Brent) Rickard King; and her great-grandchildren, Clark Thomas, Isabella June, Brantley Daniel, and Remington Ray. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Weaver; her sister, Sandi Myer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Schnorr; her father, Robert Weaver; and her mother, Virginia Ittenbach Weaver.
Barbara was a gentle, selfless soul who always put others before herself. She was the quiet strength at the heart of our family, welcoming everyone with warmth and kindness. Her life beautifully reflected her faith, and, above all, she was a prayerful warrior whose steadfast love anchored us all.
Barbara has returned home to the Lord, reunited with the love of her life and embraced by the faith that sustained her throughout her life. Though she will be deeply missed, her gentle spirit, selfless love, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on East 191st Street in Noblesville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Altar Rosary Society at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville.
