Obituary of Billie Jean Carr
Billie Jean Carr, 79, born and raised in Indiana, and a resident of Naples, Florida passed away on October 6, 2022, surrounded by family. Born March 14, 1943 to Ruth (Freeland) and William A. Shinn in Indianapolis, Billie attended Holy Trinity and St. Christopher Grade Schools and was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary Academy. After graduation, she attended Marion (College) University until she married the love of her life, John Henry Carr, III. Billie worked in finance for several companies. She was the head bookkeeper for Bill Thomas & Associates, House of James Beauty College, and the Lemon Tree in Speedway. Billie was most proud of being a mother to “Son John.” She looked forward to their daily conversations keeping her apprised of her two grandsons. Billie had many passions that enriched her life and those around her. Enjoying lunch frequently at Ridgeways in Naples, beach day on Wednesdays with her girlfriends, junking with her sisters, and time with her main man Henry, a Norwich terrier. Her commitment and dedication to her horses and her art was shared with family and friends. A riding career in the Hunter/Jumper discipline began over 30 years ago. Billie road as a social hobby but did compete in local shows with her handsome horse Harley, winning many blue ribbons over the years. Billie continued to ride until her death, but enjoyed watching the youth compete and excel with equal enthusiasm. As a social member of The Traders Point Hunt Club, she and others would follow the riders and the hounds during the Hunt always providing great excitement. In later years, if you were fortunate to have acquired and original Billie Carr watercolor, you appreciate her talent as an artist. As a member of “Between Paper and Palette”, Billie’s artwork could be seen at various restaurants and galleries throughout Indianapolis and Zionsville. After a trip to Africa, zebras, elephants, and giraffes were favorite subjects of her work. Billie is survived by her loving son, John H. Carr, IV, (Margaret), grandsons John H. Carr, V and William F. Carr, Brothers Ralph (Marjorie), Tom (Stephanie), Jim (Cynda), Bill Jr., John (Nancee), sisters, Veronica Shinn, Justina Wilmont, and Mary (Jimmy) Shields. Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, John H. Carr, III, her parents, William and Ruth Shinn, and her brother Kevin Shinn. Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 13th at Leppert Mortuary-Nora, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 14th at 11:30am at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 East Holliday Drive, Indianapolis. Interment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
