

passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018. Bruce was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 20, 1935 to Lowell and Inez Hopkins. He graduated from Evansville Bosse High School in 1953 serving as senior class President. He was accepted to Indiana University Medical School after completing only 3 years of undergraduate studies. He became a Doctor of Otolaryngology and practiced 38 years having performed over 90,000 surgeries and serving as the founder and senior partner of Indiana Otolaryngology. He served his country for 2 years as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force.
His great love was Indiana University (IU) where he was on the Board for the Wells Scholarship Program, a member of the Presidents Circle, the Well House Society, Varsity Club, Hoosier Hundred and Twelfth Man. He was always very appreciative of the exceptional education he received from IU and gave back as a lifetime supporter, booster and ultimate fan.
He was passionate about baseball having attended games at every ballpark in major league baseball, and he always stayed true to his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a walking encyclopedia for just about any topic, but his favorite was U.S. History, especially the Civil War. He visited countless battlefields, museums and historical sites. He had no shortage of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia that he displayed proudly in his home.
His yearning for adventure and interest in the world led him on measureless trips to countries all over the world. He soaked up knowledge and experience from his travels that he loved to share with others.
To his family and friends, he was the most generous and kind man. He enjoyed hosting dinners at his home and being surrounded by people including strangers. His family often joked that he never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his immeasurable generosity to others. He supported endless philanthropies throughout his lifetime impacting various causes.
He will be extremely missed by his family, friends and beloved dogs, Gabby and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Inez Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife, Sabine Hopkins, brothers; Mark Hopkins and Steve Hopkins (Ellen),
daughters; Nancy Kerns, Karen Hopkins, Heather Curtis, Mandi Gondol (Jeremy), son; Timothy Hopkins and three grandchildren; Hunter Hopkins, Zachary Hopkins and Connor Gondol.
Visitation will be 5pm to 7pm, Friday, December 28 at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th St.,
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 29 at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel.
