Carol Elizabeth (Shipper) Borland passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Indianapolis. She was born June 15, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Roy and Josephine Shipper. After growing up in Hazel Crest, Illinois she graduated from Thornridge High School in 1960. She attended Illinois State where she earned her Bachelor's in Education. She married John Borland. They had two sons, Matthew and Andrew.
Carol was a passionate teacher for over 30 years. She taught at St. Matthew Catholic School in South Bend and in multiple schools in the Penn-Harris-Madison district before returning from Schmucker Middle School. While teaching she also earned her Master's in Special Education from Indiana University.
Carol enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, and spending summers at Harper Lake where many family memories were formed. But nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her sons Matthew (Amy) Borland and Andrew (Beth) Borland; her grandchildren Kaitlyn, Sara, and Joseph; and her brother William (Kathi).
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 24 at 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Dr. East, Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be Sunday, January 23 from 2-4 pm at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. To share a personal memory of Carol please visit the website www.leppertmortuary.com.
