He lived a life full of love and dedication; he reached the finish line, keeping the faith and deep love for his family and friends.
Chafik was born on August 15, 1925, to Abdulkarim and Mouhiba Jday, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Violit Marchou, and their five children Nagham Louly, Marah Louly, Dr. Ammar Louly, Bashar Louly, and Nizar Louly.
Chafik's siblings, Elias, Mary, Alice, Joseph, George, Raef, Wadee, and Tony Louly preceded him in death.
Chafik attended school in Deir ez-Zor, Syria before moving to Hassaka, Syria where he met Violit Marchou. They were married on December 12, 1954 and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. The celebration was a joyous testament to the loving home of love they built together over many years of shared happiness.
Chafik will be remembered first and foremost as a loving and dedicated husband and father. He was an avid mechanic, electrician, businessman, and an entrepreneur who built many businesses from the ground up. Among his accomplishments were the establishment of an electrical grid in Hassaka, Syria, an ice block factory, and the city’s first of its kind movie theater, all while managing agricultural endeavors and investing in various industries. After moving his family to Damascus to enrich his children’s education, he also founded a refreshment bottling company and pursued other business ventures.
Chafik was a charismatic friend to many—always impeccably dressed in a suit, gentle in manner, and full of love. He had an open heart, listened attentively, and always willing to help anyone in need, no matter the circumstance.
In retirement, Chafik spent time traveling between his homeland, Syria, and Indianapolis. He cherished the moments spent with his family and loved ones, especially the dinners with his grandchildren, where there was always room for a dessert or two—his favorite indulgence.
Although Chafik’s passing brings immense grief to his family and friends, we take comfort in knowing that he loved us all deeply. His memory will live on in our hearts, eternal and steadfast. We are forever grateful for his presence in our lives and will honor his legacy by following his advice: to love one another, no matter what challenges life brings, and to always trust in God’s will.
