I had no clue Charlie had passed away till today April 15th 2019 and want to say I am truly sorry to hear that If I would have known I would have defiantly paid my respects to a man I had the upmost respect for
I grew up behind the Cleaners on Kingsley Drive  in Indianapolis and befriended Charlie at a very young age thru the years I helped Charlie with many projects at the cleaners and always watched the area for him at night and on weekends 
Charlie helped me land a job with the Indiana  Pacers when they was still at The old State Fair Coliseum a job that every teen age boy in Indianapolis would of loved to have  had 
Thru the years I always would stop by the cleaners and he always had the time to set me down and we would catch up even with his hectic schedule
Charlie would never hesitate to let me borrow a van to move things when I needed to 
Being part of the media I would see Charlie every year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway  and we would always catch up and have lunch  until his retirement from there
Charlie was a great man and a true friend I will never forget Charlie and he will always have a place in my heart I always looked at Charlie like my second father Rest in peace my friend

Charlie was a wonderful friend to my father, Tom Carnegie, throughout their long association together at the Indianapolis 500.  Charlie kept Tom in touch and well supplied with Dove bars and other essentials during the month of May.  Charlie was very thoughtful, patient, and considerate of others.   It was a privilege getting to know Charlie over the years.  He will be remembered and missed.  May Charlie's family find comfort in their time of loss.  

Charlie was a fascinating man.  He helped my father, Tom Carnegie, manage all the small details that were necessary to pull the entire Broadcasting team at the Indianapolis 500 through to end of the season.  His help was truly immeasurable and my Dad relied  on Charlie's help so much, he was indispensable.  When I visited the track, which wasn't too often since I live in Richmond, VA, he always made me feel part of the team too.  He cared about every person as if they were his family.  I know his death saddens us but his life was so abundantly lived I am certain there are many folks on the other side welcoming him home, my dad certainly was, this I know. Thank you Charlie for everything you did and more importantly, everything you were, you were a true hero everyday.    

The Walkers were my second family growing up. Sally and I did everything together and I spent many days and nights at the Walker's house. My first taste of lobster was at the Walkers. I also was lucky enough spend time at Lake Wawasee where I learned how to waterski. 
One of my favorite memories was going to the plant with Mr. Walker and Sally and I would make hangers for probably a penny each. Another great memory was when Sally and I dressed up in matching dresses and went to the 500 ball. I thank you for sharing so many things with me that I otherwise would never had been able to. 

Oh my, Heaven has gained another Wawasee angel.  I can see Jinks, Jim Bob and many others with open arms and a cocktail to welcome Charlie to paradise.  Know that we are thinking of you all at this time with a sad heart and a happy one that he is at peace.  We Love the Walker Family.  Hugs (( )) Joyce and Doug

I meet Charlie's son Chip back in 1984 in Dry Clean school in Maryland Washington, both of our fathers, Charlie , Chips father and Max my father send us to get more knowledge about the family business………

We both became almost imeadeatly close and best friends……..

We look back on 35 years of friendship, we have meet around the globe, in Germany, Bogota Colombia, Miami, Fl  , Carmel and Wawasee………… 

Every time we have been up to Carmel or Wawasee, Chip always arranged a BBQ, a Diner or a brunch so we could see Charlie, talk about the dry-clean business, the families and what ever other topic with Charlie

I will keep these memories always, because they make me proud and privileged to have meet Charlie

To Donna and her kids , Kathy and Sally, the Kirschberg's are very very sorry for your lost, we are with you in these hard times, we will always look back on the memories and keep them alive……

To Chip and Betsy and kids , we have known each other for more then 35 years, and I remember one meeting with Chip's father in Carmel , in one of the famous Walker's BBQ  remembering and taking about how we meet and how our families hooked up , old dry cleaning stories , and how we have stayed together over all these years , not being in the Dry Cleaning business any more,  at that  time Charlie took me to the side and told me, that he is very proud to see how Chips and my friendship has grown and that I have seen Wawasee, which was his pride , and that he wants us to keep the friendship and stay together so we can look back on memories to share and to cherish……………well Charlie, let me tell you, and I am certain you looking down on us with a smile………Mission  accomplished, our families will stay close for ever and we won't forget your stories and you wisdom, they have made us smarter , stronger and more prepared for what ever will come, thanks to you

When I was 10 or 11 years old and my name was Jane Remley, Charlie and Donna were the cute couple across the street.  They had two cute little babies while they lived on Kingsley Drive and I loved to go over there and play with Kathy and Chip, who, according to the obituary, are now grandparents, as I am.  I remember how much fun Charlie was and how much my parents enjoyed having the Walkers as neighbors.  I am so sorry for all of the Walker family for your loss.  Take care.   Jane Remley Hodgin

So sad to read about Charlie's passing. But I have so many great memories of our time working together at the Speedway. Charlie was a gem of a human being.
