Obituary of David Lee Scott
David Lee Scott, 74, of Indianapolis, departed this life Sunday, July 25, 2021. Dave was born on April 28, 1947 in Indianapolis. He was the third son to the late Troy Wallace and Harriett (Bray) Scott. Dave was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and went on to graduate from Indiana University, Bloomington with a business degree. Dave would then work in banking and finance for 27 years before accepting a position with Indiana University School of Medicine as Head of Fiscal Affairs. He enjoyed working for a division of his alma mater for 25 years, until retiring in 2016. Dave was a kind and caring soul who was happiest being a Paw Paw to his grandchildren and making lasting memories with his family. He loved the peace of being outdoors and rarely passed on an opportunity to work in his yard or go fishing, and was always game for a good match of ping pong. Dave also enjoyed many Saturday afternoons on the sideline of the Sellick Bowl as a longtime member of the “Chain Gang” for Butler University Football. His favorite sideline was on any field or stage his grandchildren were on from gymnastics and cheer to swimming, soccer, and baseball. Dave loved travelling with his family and especially enjoyed planning the vacations for all to enjoy. He was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joanne “Jodi” (Kelley) Scott; his devoted children, Shannon Porter and Sean (Shawn) Scott; his adoring grandchildren, Kaelin and Christopher Porter and Jacqueline, Juliette and Henry Scott; dear brother Troy (Susie) Scott and sister-in-law Marsha Scott as well as a host of dear nieces, nephews and old friends. Dave was preceded in death by his brother Ron Scott. Visitation for Dave will begin at 10:00 am and conclude at the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday, July 30th at St. Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Dave's name to: the Humane Society of Indianapolis (https://indyhumane.org/) or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (https://www.pancan.org/).
