Eleanor Golden, née Gosciewski, was a defender, teacher and counselor for children her entire life. Though Eleanor played many roles and accomplished many things in her 91 years, her greatest legacy is the children she loved as she worked with them to learn how to appreciate themselves as they navigated a complex world. A professional elementary teacher and guidance counselor, Eleanor carried her ability to counsel children into her roles as mother (sometimes to her daughters’ chagrin!), grandmother, aunt, and neighbor. Many adults today are more resourceful, more confident, and more loving because they knew “Mrs. Golden.” Eleanor’s gift came with a strong sense of justice that fiercely protected teachers’ ability to nurture and guide children. Eleanor was a force for good, without apology.
Eleanor died peacefully on December 4th at Marquette Manor, Indianapolis, IN. Eleanor was the wife of the late James Golden for 68 years. Eleanor is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Karen Golden-Biddle and R. Mark Biddle; Kathryn Correia and Stephen Correia, and Kimberly Lenzo and Christopher Lenzo. Eleanor’s grandchildren Nathaniel Lee Biddle, Nathaniel Taylor and Zachary Golden Correia, and Andrew James Lenzo will especially miss talking with her. Eleanor was the daughter of the late Sophia (née Musieck) and Walter Gosciewski; loving sister of Walter Gosky (Regina), Pauline Paulozzi (Joseph), Henry Gosky (Gracie), Martin Gosciewski (Donna), Helen Goss (all deceased), F. William Gosciewski (deceased) (Kathleen), and Edward Guest (Rene); and many nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
