

Born January 7, 1926 in Pittston, Pennsylvania to Italian immigrants Cologero and Carmela (Micciche) Giarratano, Gaetana is survived by her loving children Susan (James) Coogan, Samuel Blandina, and Charles (Hope) Blandina. She is forever Nona to her adoring grandchildren Shannon (Mathew) Hautman, Tyler (Diana) Coogan, Shane Coogan, great grandsons George and Peter, and her great granddaughter due in August of this year.
Gaetana was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Anthony, Ross, Helen, John, Mary (Mistretta), Constance (Gannon), Caroline (Hoppenfeld), Lena (Jacobs), Rose (Lotzi), and husband Samuel Gerard Blandina.
Affectionately known as G.G., Gaetana attended Misericordia University and was homecoming queen at King’s College. Following decades of work in bookkeeping and social services, she retired from a distinguished career at the Indiana Department of Child Services. She was an avid photographer and won multiple awards as a member of The Rivera Club’s camera club. Gaetana spent countless hours gardening, and enjoyed listening to jazz and playing bridge. Her family holds many fond memories of home-cooked Italian meals enjoyed around her dining room table.
A private family mass will be held in her memory.
