Hugh was born Irwin Hugh Watson, in Chrisman, Illinois, to his parents, Florence and John Watson.
At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a hospital corpsman and a pharmacists’ mate during WWII. After his military service he enrolled at Knox College where he studied for two years. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan (1950) – and earned a JD at the University of Michigan School of Law (1953). Mr. Watson practiced law as a partner of the Indianapolis law firm Locke Reynolds Boyd and Weisell for 34 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Watson had a lifelong love for the performing arts especially the theatre. As an actor he appeared on stage in over 30 plays and musical productions at theaters in Indianapolis. He also volunteered as a voice actor, including work for the Indiana State Library’s Talking Books program.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Healey Watson, sons Scott and Todd (Bree), and five grandchildren—John and Alex Watson, Skylar Preston-White, Eben and Ozias Watson.
A celebration of Hugh Watson’s life will be held on May 14 at 3 pm at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, with calling beginning at 1:30PM. (740 E 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240).
