Jim graduated from Cathedral High School in the class of 1950 and attended the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Civil Engineering. As a Project Engineer, he successfully completed projects including Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis Missouri; Lehigh Portland Cement Co. Plant in Mitchell, IN; Missouri Portland Cement Company Plant in Joppa, IL; and the Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL.
As Project Manager he completed work for warehouse and office buildings for Ayr-Way Stores, Penn Park Garage, Indianapolis, IN; renovation and reconstruction of a portion of St. Meinrad Archabbey, St Meinrad, IN; an addition to Dennison Parking; an addition to Stokely-Van Camp and the rehabilitation of old St. Vincent Hospital building. As Construction Manager, he negotiated contracts and completed projects for Indianapolis Public Schools and school systems throughout the State of Indiana.
After retirement Jim enjoyed tennis, golf and home remodeling. He traveled throughout Europe, Ireland and many US States, including Alaska.
Jim is survived by his wife Bernice Boucher Hopp, whom he married in June 1982. His children are; Teresa Hopp (Kevin) Stark, Michael Hopp, and Jeffrey Hopp. Grandchildren are Laura Stark Lancaster and Joseph (Mollie) Stark. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Jim) Curtis and John (Ann) Hopp. Great grandchildren Ava Lancaster and Max Stark. Nieces and nephews also survive in Indiana and California. Jim was predeceased by his first wife Lenore and his grandson Tom Stark.
