A sad hello to all the Garveys  on this somber occassion.  We are the Harts from St. Louis.  Bob knew Jerry from high school and thru Rangerhood.  Janet and Bob knew Jill and Jerry and enjoyed the little time we were able to spend together.  Jerry will be missed.  Who can forget his part time gig as Friendly Bob Adams the loan man or as the SLU Billiken and, or course, the sound of Tela the elephant.  We all know Jerry loved his job, treasured his friendships and gloried in Jill and their children.  A good man.  Our prayers are with you.  Wish we could do more.

A man can bequeath only children and art to the world.   Jerry has given us Liz, Greg, Tom and Cathy who will continue to spread his joy of life well lived.  He has passed to all of us the important  and delicate art of friendship. May we honor his memory every day by the kindness we show others.

I’ve struggled for several days since Jerry’s death to come up with appropriate words that would relay my respect and gratitude for the 20+ years that I was fortunate to work with him at Simon Property Group.  I was also fortunate to work with Jerry’s son/Tom, who joined SPG’s Peripheral Development for several years before moving on to other opportunities.

As I watched the funeral Mass today, Monsignor Schaedel called Jerry a “beacon of light” to his family and friends.  He was that indeed to those of us privileged to work with him over the years at May Company and Simon.  

His office door was always open for mentoring  on work or other issues;  as others have noted, he could be direct and/or empathetic as needed and his sense of humor was always on display.

I feel very fortunate to have met and worked with Jerry Garvey.

Jerry and Jill and the O’Neills were such great friends traveling through the Midwest, Chicago, Douglas MI, Indy, Red Geranium, Minneapolis and ultimately Ireland to pursue our roots. Great fun, laughter, school stories, St Louis. Jerry was always good for a laugh, terrific memory, brought out the best in all of us. He will be missed. He was a good, great man. After a very sad week, it was our honor to share in the celebration of a life well lived for our dear friend, Jerry.  We are among the lucky ones to have had a close friendship with Jerry for many years, and to have known his intellect, his wit, his integrity, his good taste and his love and respect for family and friends.  We send our love to Jill and the family. May his memory be a blessing.

I was a best friend of Jerry's sister Nancy in St. Louis.  I spent lots of  of time at Jerry & Nancy's house.  Jerry would have a bunch of his St. Louis U High friends over and we all had soo much fun.  He was such a nice guy and everyone loved Jerry and his sister Nancy.  His mom Agnes was one of my favorite mom's, such had such a great sense of humor.  My heart goes out to Jill his wife and all of his wonderful family at this very difficult time. I always enjoyed conversations with Jerry....he was such a gentleman,  witty, observant of humanity, compassionate ,and a truly wonderful Father-in-law to my son Stephen. May he rest in Peace.   Sheila

I was very saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. I first met Jerry at a Simon Christmas party in 1972. Herb must of mentioned me to him and he asked if we could talk. He then offered me a position at May Co. I declined and joined Simon the next April. Jerry joined shortly thereafter. We spent the next 20 plus years working together in the office, on business trips, and at Broadmoor struggling with our golf games. More memories than can be expressed. He will be missed!!

Jerry was always the nicest man I have ever man. I knew him through work and later when we would see each other getting coffee at Starbucks   A bonus was meeting and working with his daughter liz and Cathy’s joining our family

I met Jerry at May Co in the 70s/80s. He was a kind, witty man and  a talented executive.  William Harding, my late husband, had a lot of respect for Jerry and appreciated his input and counsel. 

My condolences to Jill and  the family at this sad time. 

Jill and Jerry offered respite to me and my family during cross country road trips and business travel to Indy. Gracious, welcoming hospitality, interesting conversation, and generosity. Rest In Peace and find solace in family tradition and memory. God bless.

I have many memories associated with my nearly 30 years at Simon, and some of the fondest are of working with Jerry. Few people had deeper knowledge of the industry, and some of the most memorable developments I worked on were ones he led. He inspired and modeled excellence in execution and attention to every detail. To him, relationships ruled supreme. Jerry had integrity, faith, and a passion for culture, all of which made him a lovely person to know and work with. I offer my condolences to the family he loved and was so proud of. 

Jerry was a great friend for almost forty years. We enjoyed coffee together nearly every Tuesday  morning for the past 15 years and discussed politics, world affairs , the Pacers and Colts and a many other topics in his wide-ranging interests.  
     When we lost a son several years ago Jerry was the first person to call and he and Jill were a constant source of comfort and support.
     He loved his family and treasured the times they enjoyed together. 
     Jerry’s interests were diverse and his contributions to the arts community were substantial and frequent. In particular, he loved the opera and they will miss his efforts.
His family, friends and the community will all miss this very special person.

Words can’t describe my love for Jerry. One of the great relationships of my life. An almost 30 year relationship that started as mentor/co-worker, transitioned to friendship and then blossomed in this last beautiful era as my great pleasure to be his son in law. Catherine, Jill, Tom, Greg and Liz, you guys making me part of this family is one of the great honors of my life.

On behalf of the Spellmeyer family, we would like to express our sadness at Jerry’s passing.  When Art met Jerry at the May Co. in the 70’s, he became a mentor to him and the two became fast friends along with Greg Glass.   When Art came to Simon, the relationship he and Jerry had became a really strong bond.  Jerry was a great friend that always checked in with Art and later would call and offer me an ear to listen or some comforting words.  I appreciated those calls more than he will ever know and I believe he would be humbled if I praised him for it.  Jerry was passionate about travel, food and wine but nothing was more important than the love he had for his family.  He will be greatly missed .   He had the greatest smile !

No question Jerry was a very good guy. He will be missed. Our condolences to his family.

One of a kind ....I so admired  Jerry for his  intellect  ....razor sharp “ spot on “‘whit.  I’ll never forget / stop appreciating a morning in my office in 93 the week I returned after my Father passed , Jerry came in , shut the door and sat with me ...after a fee tears ...Jerry put the first smile back on my face .
