She grew up in Greenfield, IN and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1956. From a young age, JoAnn displayed a deep interest in homemaking, a compassion for others and a dedication to service. These qualities would shape the rest of her life.
JoAnn attended Purdue University, where she met the love of her life, Langdon Williams Kumler. Langdon was a wonderful soccer coach whose career JoAnn supported with unwavering devotion. From Langdon’s early coaching years with the Saints Soccer Club, to his later years as Head Coach of Park Tudor and inaugural Head Coach for Butler University Men’s Varsity Soccer, JoAnn’s commitment to Langdon’s teams was unparalleled. From uniform management to hosting team dinners, JoAnn was always there to support her husband and his teams.
In addition to supporting her husband, JoAnn had many talents and interests of her own. Foremost was her family: husband, children and grandchildren. Second were her many friends, from all walks of life. She found great joy in entertaining friends and family in her home. Along with her role as loving mother, JoAnn found immense joy in her church community, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was a devoted member. For years, she lent her voice to the choir and also served as trusted wedding coordinator. Additionally, she dedicated countless hours to the St Paul’s Altar Guild, tending to the sanctuary with love and care.
In recent years, her love of flowers led her to volunteering many hours to Random Act of Flowers. JoAnn arranged and delivered these gifts, bringing comfort and joy to so many.
JoAnn Kumler will be remembered for her unwavering faith, devotion to her family and service to others, through her gifts of cooking, baking, gardening, flower arranging and creating, among many other talents. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service and kindness that will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.
