John E. Denson, 81, of Carmel, IN passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
John was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Thomas and Laura Denson. He spent most of his childhood in Richmond, VA, where he met and started dating Barbara Funderburke at the age of 16; they married five years later, and would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary next month. John was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a BS in Accounting. He had a long, fulfilling career in business, working for many years as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Solon Automated Services and then as Executive Vice President for Acquisitions at Coinmach. Through his career and retirement, he and Barbara developed a wide group of friends in Alexandria, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Charlotte, NC, Lexington, KY, Bridgeport, WV and at ManorCare at Summer Trace in Carmel, IN.
John was an active member of his church wherever he lived, serving in various leadership roles. He also proudly served his community, whether he was coaching his kids’ sports teams or serving as the Treasurer of Military Missions. What he loved most was sharing life with his beloved wife Barbara, supporting his children and their families, and rooting for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
In addition to Barbara, John is survived by his children Beth (James), John (Stephanie), Michael (Kristen), Chris (Amy), 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

John has been a friend since high school (he was 'Johnny' back then) and although he is with his Lord and Savior now, my heart goes out to Barbara and their family.
