86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Cincinnati, departed this life on Monday, November 12, 2018.
John “Jay” D. Reis, loving husband (preceded in death by his wife Nancy Reis), beloved father of four children; Jennifer, Timothy, Mark, and Maria; devoted companion of Mary Covert, and cherished grandfather to Meredith and Alex Kugar; Samantha and Jacqueline Reis; Jack, Charles, and Caroline Reis; Noah and Hannah Angelico passed away in his sleep at the age of 86, in Indianapolis, IN.
John was born in Cincinnati, OH where he developed his early integrity and unselfish character under Jesuit tutelage at St. Xavier High School and Xavier University. As a CPA he worked initially for a national accounting firm but soon left to open a private accounting partnership, Reis & Domaschko. He was a night school accounting professor at the University of Cincinnati and spent the last 15 years of his career as controller with the Cincinnati Bengals.
John was a man with many strong opinions, a principled debater of ideas, and brave in the face of overreaching authority, with an instinct for fairness. An inveterate tinkerer, he sought to understand how objects and machines worked. Ultimately he was a soft and sensitive soul inside a CPA’s body, a little boy with an easy laugh and a kind heart. His good life made a difference.
A Memorial Mass for John will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 11:00 am in St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive E, Indianapolis, IN 46260. Visitation will precede the service, at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Paul Lammermeier Foundation (4600 Mason Montgomery Road, Mason, OH 45040) or the charity of your choice. On line condolences available at: www.leppertmortuary.com
