Juris Liepnieks, 76, passed away on February 15, 2023. Originally from Latvia, Juris’ parents were displaced to Wurzburg, Germany where he was born on February 23, 1946. Juris and his family emigrated to the United States and, after initially settling in North Carolina, ultimately settled permanently in Indianapolis. Juris graduated from Purdue University in 1978 with a PhD in biochemistry, after which he conducted postdoctoral research in Canada at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. After returning to Indianapolis, he worked for many years as a biochemist with the IU School of Medicine department of pathology and laboratory medicine, focusing his work and studies on amyloid proteins and amyloidosis. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janina, his son Karl, and sisters Val and Lidija.
A visitation for Juris will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM.
