Karen Ann Feeney, 67, of Indianapolis, departed this life on Friday, September 26, 2025. Karen was born on August 11, 1958, in Indianapolis to the late Donald L and Joyce (Abrams) Beckerich. She had attended Christ the King School and then Immaculate Heart of Mary School, graduating in 1972. Karen then graduated from Ladywood-St. Agnes in 1976. Karen earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Marian College. She developed lifelong friends along the way at every school she attended. Routinely staying in touch with IHM, LSA and Marian classmates.
Karen had worked as a Certified Public Accountant for Deloitte Advisory Services, and later at Bishop Chatard High School as tuition manager. She was a longtime and dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she had coached kickball, spent countless hours on CYO Parish Sports Committee and volunteered herself at numerous functions over the years. Karen was proud of her Irish heritage and was a member of The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians - Our Lady of Knock Division #1, a devoted football mom at Bishop Chatard, a Cub Scout Den Leader and simply someone who everyone could always rely on in a time of need...
Karen was a kind and gentle soul who always put her faith and family first. She cherished making meaningful memories with her family at every opportunity and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren. She loved following and supporting Indiana sports of all sorts throughout the year. She always enjoyed watching a Notre Dame or Colts Football game, the Pacers and Fever on the court, the Indianapolis 500 and the Cincinnati Reds.
In addition to her parents, Karen was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Theresa M. (Koerner) and Malachia F. Feeney who adored her especially after the grandkids arrived on the scene. They quickly admonished their son to not mess it up with Karen after their first meeting. They knew she was a keeper, even though Charles was just in awe that she continued to not mind being around him.
Karen and Charles attended Christ the King Catholic Grade School together where they received First Holy Communion. Charles was exactly two weeks older than Karen...
Karen's Dad decided to move to Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish prior to third grade.
Charles could not venture west of the Monon Tracks or cross College Avenue without adult supervision. The forced separation lasted for almost 20 years.
Karen and Charles reconnected in Clermont, IN over a keg of beer.
The skillset of his tap changing has forever been credited with getting these two back together.
The woman with incredible blue eyes, could be made to laugh easily which only served to embolden Charles’ confidence.
Much to his surprise, Karen kept coming back to the keg all evening under the guise of getting a refill. With every return trip Charles became more confused. He thought for sure there was some dare being used by her fellow Marian girlfriends. He knew Karen was and would always be out of his league.......
Charles decided that the girl he knew in first and second grade had finally shed her cooties...so he wised up and decided to marry her after seeking permission from her Dad. After enduring the gauntlet of cross examination for almost an hour in his law office, her Dad agreed. It was decided to have the wedding on August 6th, 1983, between their birthdays. It sounded cute at the time, until Karen’s Parent’s house air conditioning went out on the wedding eve. And given Charles’ ability to profusely perspire even thinking about wearing a tux…
Given her Accounting background, she immediately became the Feeney CFO adeptly controlling the checkbook and all bank / credit accounts to Charles’ relief.
Karen instantly picked up four older brothers and gained one little sister with the marriage while Charles got two additional little sisters. Karen bragged about how large her family was and then was introduced to the Feeney/Scollard/Kelly clans. She moved with ease within either crowd while thriving. Either side's family reunion was one of Karen's most precious life events. The Woman excelled whatever the environment...
