Obituary of Kent L. Smith Jr.
Kent L. Smith, Jr. Kent L. Smith, Jr., a loving son and brother, entered into eternal rest on March 24, 2023, at the age of 52. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, he was born on September 28, 1970, to Barbara S. and Kent L. Smith, Sr. Kent Jr. attended Hilltop and then North Central High School in their special education classes from which he graduated in 1992. He had been active in the Special Olympics while in school. A busy young man he was, having been a Cub Scout in Pack 18 and a Boy Scout in Troop 18 where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the help of many others. He also earned his Firecrafter and his Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow. Kent Jr. was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at the Northside Food Pantry the past few years. He had worked as an employee of Marriott Courtyard for 31 years. He was a Mason and member of Calvin W. Prather Lodge #717 in Lawrence, a Scottish Rite member, and a Shriner of Murat Shrine where he was a member of the Reception Unit. A sports enthusiast he was, following many of the Indianapolis sport teams. He especially loved and followed the Indianapolis Colts, Pacers, and the Fever. He would wave the appropriate flag around, usually telling us the team had won, when in fact they had not. Kent Jr. was preceded in death by his father Kent L. Smith, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Barbara (Sanford) Smith, brother Scott A. (Raina) Smith, niece Elizabeth (Libby) Smith and nephew Hayden Smith. Calling will be at Leppert Mortuary in Nora on April 21, 2023, from 4-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7:30. The funeral service will be at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian Street on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11:00 am. If you wish to make a donation, they may be made to Special Olympics of Indiana, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, c/o Murat Shrine, 510 N.
