Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kurt grew up shaped by the values of responsibility, kindness, and integrity. After marrying Suzanne (Straus) Kollmeyer, the couple built their life together in East Lansing, Michigan, where they raised their children.
Two years ago, Kurt returned to Indianapolis, bringing him back to the city where his life began and closer to the family he cherished. Throughout every chapter of his life, he remained a steady, gentle presence — a man who loved deeply, listened quietly, and supported those around him with unwavering devotion.
Kurt was a proud graduate of Valparaiso University, where he also played basketball. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. His professional life included many years as an auditor and manager for the Department of Health and Human Services, followed by work as a contract auditor for Michigan State University after retiring from federal service.
Kurt found joy in time spent with family and friends. He loved playing baseball and golf, and he thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lansing. In retirement, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals or any Michigan State University sports team.
Kurt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Suzanne, his brother, Wilbur “Will”, and his parents, Wilbur and Alice.
Kurt is survived by his three children: Kristin Kollmeyer Schaaf (Daniel Keto), Kent (Betsy) Kollmeyer, and Karl (Brande) Kollmeyer. He was a cherished grandfather to Karson, Keegan (Lauren), Maximilian, Kelsey, Kayla, Silas, and Adelyn, each of whom brought him immense joy. He recently celebrated the arrival of his first great‑grandchild, Blaire, a blessing he treasured.
Funeral services will be held at Leppert Mortuary (740 E 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240) on Thursday, July 2, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Jim Lichtenberger. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery (700 W 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208) where Kurt will be laid to rest with his parents.
