Obituary of Lois Ann Gumpper
Lois Ann Gumpper passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022 at the age of 98 years. She was born April 5, 1923 to Otto Gumpper & M. Lucile Peirson Gumpper. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Faye Louise Gumpper Fields, brother-in-law Robert Fields & sister-in-law Jane Gumpper. She is survived by her brother, John Frederick Gumpper III of Kalamazoo, MI & 8 nieces/nephews: DiAnn Fields Donahue(James); Steven Fields (Linda); Thomas Fields (Peggy); James Fields (Michele); Susan Gumpper; John Gumpper IV (Barbara); Matthew Gumpper; Patrick Gumpper(Elaine); 13 great nieces/nephews & 8 great-great nieces/nephews. Lois graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne & Miami University in Ohio, majoring in Dietetics. She also received a Masters Degree in Public Health from University of Michigan at the age of 40 years. She worked as a dietitian at Wittenberg University, Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, yet spent the majority of her career with the Indiana State Board of Health. After retirement at age 65 years, she spent many volunteer hours at Gleaners Food Bank, WIC (Women Infants & Children), Girls Inc., and worshiping/volunteering at Faith Church in Indianapolis. She was also active in AAUW, PEO & multiple professional groups, such as American Dietetic Association & Indiana Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. “Aunt Loie” was devoted to her family, looking after her widowed mother, with whom she frequently traveled to visit family & most notably attending Oberammergau Passion Play in 1970. Over the years, she attended the sporting events, dance recitals & graduations of her nieces/nephews, often arriving early as requested to save seats for the entire family. She never forgot a birthday or holiday for family & friends. She will always be remembered as an extremely loyal & hard-working woman, devoted to family, friends, church & all her volunteer activities. We will also honor her by always eating our vegetables! Funeral services are planned for Saturday, January 22, 2022 with visitation from 1-2 p.m. and services immediately following at Faith Church, 9125 N. College Avenue, Indianapolis, 46240. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial contributions in Lois’ memory may be made to Faith Church.
