mother and grandmother.
After graduating Shortridge High School in 1951 where she was Monday's editor
of the daily school “Echo,” she majored in journalism at the University of Wisconsin.
Ice skating on Lake Mendota in winter and studying on the piers in spring where
the big ten rowing teams passed by training in the lake were quiet diversions.
Later she wrote human interest stories for the Atlanta Journal and was a
correspondent for the Indianapolis News and Times. After marrying Herbert in 1956 she helped
out at the family business until the children were born.
As a mother, parenting was her most important job. As the children, and later
grandchildren grew up, she tried to impress the importance of the written word while they
pursued education and positions around the globe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, after a 40-year marriage,
parents, and sister.
Survivors include her children: David Adler (Natalie), Laurie Grasel, Bess Selby
(Keith), Daniel Adler, brother Lee Lewis (Susan),
grandchildren: Clea, Samuel, Caroline, Ben (Sierra), Suzannah, Tessa, Max,
Zachary (Stephanie), and Stephanie Pearl, her great-grand-daughter Aubrey, and nieces
and nephews.
In keeping with Marilyn's request, the family celebrated her life in a private
ceremony.
Marilyn tried to do a good deed most days and felt that being kind, thoughtful and
respectful to others with a sense of humor tossed in for good measure was the ideal way
to live. Practicing acts of kindness would be the best way to keep Marilyn's memory
alive.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.leppertmortuarynora.com for the Adler family.
