Marilyn Joan Roose of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2020 while enjoying quality time with her husband and best friend, Dean Roose, on their 60th Wedding Anniversary. She would say that her life truly began when she met Dean so it was only fitting that he could hold her hand on that bittersweet day. Marilyn was born in South Bend, Indiana on March 15, 1940 to Charles and Zelda Keltner. Although she and Dean raised their family in the heart of Indiana, they were often travelling together in their RV. Road-tripping was one of Marilyn’s favorite pastimes, especially when the end destination was a beach along the Gulf Coast of Florida. The one location closest to her heart being Sanibel Island A location that will forever be in the hearts of her children and grandchildren thanks to the lifetime of trips spent and memories made with her each June. Her love of travel and her faith in God are what led her to dabble in the arts. Whether it was painting “happy trees” along with Bob Ross, singling alto to hymns she played on her organ/piano or writing a Christmas card to a loved one, she added a special twist of her own. This woman truly was one-of-a-kind and each person she met throughout her 80 years of life would certainly agree. Holidays, especially Christmas, were her favorite and she upheld many traditions, including baking and decorating trays of cookies with her grandchildren. While many remember her as being the hostess to the best parties on the block or the home cook that “never made anything that wasn’t good,” her loved ones will never forget her love for her family. Although Marilyn held many positions in her life, including her work as a librarian at the J. Everett Light Center and a swimming/diving instructor, her most proud position was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Nothing made her prouder than seeing her family flourish as successfully as her beautiful gardens. She was strong, supportive and never sugar-coated anything other than her famous Texas Sheet Cake. Her life was built on experiences that included those she loved most, and for that, she was truly blessed. The loved ones that Marilyn is survived by includes her husband, Dean Roose; daughter Robin King (Roger); daughter Vicki Bergman (Dan); son Dean Roose (Nancy); sister Margaret Blakely (Dave); 7 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to A Living Tribute, a group who works with tree planting organizations to repopulate trees in the National Forests and Parks.
