Obituary of Mary McCaslin Everett
Mary McCaslin Everett, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away April 27, 2021 after battling back cancer for 20 years. She was born November 13, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to the late Walter and Elsie (Garber) McCaslin. Mary received her BA in Elementary Education from University of Maryland, and her Master’s in Education from Ball State. Mary married Fred Everett just after she graduated from University of Maryland. After taking care of her three children and several relocations around the country, Mary, Fred, and their children settled in Indianapolis. This is where she began her teaching career. Mary was a teacher at Skiles Test Elementary School in Indianapolis, where she taught third grade for 20 years and was most known for her lessons on the Dutch painters every year. After she retired from Skiles Test, she worked part time at St. Luke’s Preschool and volunteered at Community Heart Hospital. She was a member of St. Luke’s Sara Circle, Tri Delta Sorority, Puppy Pillows for hospitalized children, and taught Sunday School at her church for many years. Mary enjoyed reading, singing hymns, playing piano and bridge, and gathering with family and friends. Survivors include her children, James Everett, Nancy (Thomas) Lange, Thomas (Susan) Everett; grandchildren, Caroline Tuerk, Matt (Laura) Lange, Erica (Phil) Sharon, Ryne Everett, Cary Everett, Jessica Everett; great grandchildren, Brooks Sharon, Emmet Sharon, Charles Lange, Grace Lange. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fred George Everett, and sisters Nancy Hamilton McCaslin and Dorothy McCaslin Flynn. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, with calling held from 11 AM until time of service at the church.
