

Mary Briggs Grady, 95, of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 28, 1926. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 73 ½ years, Patrick L. Grady, her parents, Ray and Myra (Allison) Briggs, her brother, John Allison Briggs, an infant daughter, Susan Elizabeth, her brother-in law, Robert P. Tuerk, and her son-in-law, Kurt R. Douglass. Mary is survived by her twin sister, Janie (Robert) Tuerk. Mary is also survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Kurt) Douglass, Colleen (John) Colvin, and Marianne (Chip) Koby. In addition she has four grandchildren: JT Mlinarcik, Kelly (Drew) Cohen, Geoff (Alexis) Mlinarcik, and Kendall (Ryan) Scott. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Halle, Jon Grady, Ryder, and Dillon Mlinarcik; Joss and Emmet Cohen; and Mackenzie and Miles Mlinarcik. After graduating from Shortridge High School in 1944, Mary attended Stephens College and subsequently graduated from Indiana University. She married her high school sweetheart, Patrick, on July 3, 1948. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and a devoted alumna for 64 years. She later became involved with Girl Scouts, as a leader for 14 years, and serving on the Board of the Hoosier Capital Girl Scout Council, Inc. She was a member of Sunnyside Guild, Tri Kappa, and St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, serving as the Chairman of the 1972 Decorator’s Show House. Mary was an avid bridge player and golfer. She served as Chairman of the Ladies’ 18-Hole Group at Meridian Hills Country Club. After moving to Florida in 1978, she again served as Chairman of the Ladies’ 18-Hole Group at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida. In her spare time she loved to knit and created hundreds of newborn baby caps for Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach. Her other hobby involved building and decorating a 12 room Victorian dollhouse that replicated a lot of family memorabilia in miniature. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by many personal caregivers who nurtured and supported her over the last few months, the staff of Story Cottage as well as Brookdale Hospice. Special gratitude goes to Christina McCann, Encompass Senior Navigations, for her compassionate guidance and support of the family over several years. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 27th from 4-5:30 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at Leppert Mortuary, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.
