

Mary Ann (Hiley) Haering, 99, of Indianapolis, passed away July 11, 2023, just a few days before her 100th birthday. She was born July 16, 1923 in Mill Shoals, Illinois to the late James and Eliza (Powell) Hiley. Mary Ann was a graduate of Mill Shoals High School (Illinois) and Colliers Business College in Evansville, Indiana. She was employed as a medical assistant with H.C. Moss, M.D. for over 30 years (1963-1993).
In high school, Mary Ann was the captain of the girls basketball team. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority which led to volunteer opportunities at Crossroads and Riley Children’s Hospital. Mary Ann enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband, Dick. They were members of the Irvington Dance Club and Riviera Dance Club. She loved Bridge and she was always the instigator of playing games whenever she could. She was also a tremendous fan of Notre Dame football…and nothing would get in the way of her cheering for the team.
Mary Ann was also a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
Survivors include her son, Mark R. (Polly) Haering, daughter, Cynthia Haering Kryda; grandchildren, Brian (Cindy) Haering, Kelly Haering, Michelle (Dave) Friedman, Nicole (Zac Hughes) Kryda, Aimee (Colin) Brigstocke; great grandchildren, Ari and Asher Friedman, Oliver and Finnea Brigstocke, and Rowan Haering; and a niece, Theresa Haering Sachs, who were all dearly loved by Mary Ann. She was preceded death by the love of her life, Richard W. Haering, whom she was married to for 74 years before he passed in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her 7 siblings.
The family would like to acknowledge Paradigm Hospice and the nursing staff at Allisonville Meadows for their kindness and care when taking care of Mary Ann.
The family will be having a private ceremony at Cedar Grove Cemetery, located at the University of Notre Dame at a later date.
