Obituary of Michael "Mike" L. Galloway
Michael “Mike” L. Galloway, age 75, passed away on August 1, 2020. He was born July 22, 1945, to Max Woodrow and Mary Blanche (Bailey) Galloway in Indianapolis, Indiana. Michael was a beloved husband to Susie (Davison) Galloway and the loving father of Christopher Michael and Jeffrey Matthew Galloway. Michael is also survived by his sister Patricia Ann and his brothers John Christopher (Beccie), Richard Joseph (Sue), and Gregory Max Galloway; nephews Sean Berne’, Mike Berne’, Seth Galloway and Marc Galloway; nieces Cheryl Galloway and Lindsey (Galloway) Hall (Marcus); and grandnieces Kai and Naomi Hall. He was very kind, wise, and knowledgeable and was a valued mentor to his children and siblings. He often made his family members laugh hysterically by the funny things he said and wrote. We will greatly miss his sense of humor. Michael graduated from Cathedral High School and then had a long and diverse career made possible by his strong intellect. He started his career at Methodist Hospital in 1963 where he worked as a surgical orderly. After this job, he was employed by Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Company as a General Liability Underwriter. In 1968 he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served as a medic. Later he was employed by the Indiana Department of Insurance for 14 years as an Insurance Company examiner, and he traveled the United States performing work for the Indiana Insurance Guaranty Association where he worked to protect Indiana policyholders and claimants when property and casualty insurance companies became insolvent. After his work with the Indiana Insurance Guaranty Association, he went to work for Allied Fidelity Insurance Company and became the Vice President of their Specialty Division and was later promoted to Treasurer of the company. Next, he changed careers and went to work for Mechanics Laundry in Indianapolis from 1987 to 1999 as their Manager of Information Technology. He finished his career working for Conseco Insurance Company in Carmel, Indiana from1999 to 2010 as an Information Technology Systems Administrator and was often “on call” 24 hours a day. Michael was also an avid ham radio operator and earned his General Class Amateur Radio Operator License. This license granted him some operating privileges on all Amateur Radio bands and all operating modes. This license opened the door for him to communicate by radio with other amateur radio operators world-wide. Michael was most at peace and happiest while fishing with his sons from his boat at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis.
