Michael Louis Richardt

Born July 2, 1949, in Evansville, Indiana, Michael was the son of Louis and Marguerite Richardt. He attended Saint James Catholic School in Haubstadt, Indiana, and Rex Mundi High School in Evansville, Indiana. A graduate of Sam's Technical Institute, he worked at Kent Plastics and later obtained a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. After settling in Indianapolis, Michael spent 25 years with Federal Express. Upon retiring from FedEx, he started a new career as a financial advisor with several firms, including Charles Schwab and Prudential. Indianapolis remained his home for the rest of his life.

Outside of work, Michael found his way to the woods whenever he could. He enjoyed hiking the trails, backpacking, and camping in Hoosier National Forest. At home, he practiced his love of nature by planting a forest on his near acre of land, carefully cultivating a large stand of maple, spruce, holly, and other favorites over many decades.

Michael was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Indianapolis, where he served as a Knight of Columbus. In recent years, he was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and served as a Flotilla Commander. Michael felt immense pride in giving back to his community by promoting safety on the open water, from the Geist Reservoir to the Ohio River.

He is survived by his wife, Janie, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage, and their son, Joshua Richardt (Suzy) of Bucharest, Romania; his son, Michael Justin Richardt (Chrissy) of Atlanta, Georgia; his grandsons, Zach Richardt and Tyler Richardt; and his siblings: Mark Douglas Richardt (Pamela) of Danville, Indiana; Jill Ann Oneglia (Francis) of Hawthorne, Florida; Jeffrey Allen Richardt (Alanah) of Evansville, Indiana; Christopher Noel Richardt of Limestone, Tennessee; Meribeth Mermall of Chicago, Illinois; Timothy Paul Richardt (Ellen) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Charles Adrian Richardt of Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

The family is grateful to everyone who shared in Michael's life and friendship. His memory will remain with those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be sent to the Indiana Forestry Alliance, Indiana Knights of Columbus, or the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 9.

Visitation will be held at Leppert Mortuary - Nora, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240, on August 15, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 E Holliday Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46260, on August 15, 2026, at 11:30 am.
