OBITUARY

Mickey Townley

September 24, 1932March 18, 2020

Magdalene M. “Mickey” Townley, 87, of Indianapolis, departed this life Wednesday, March 18, 2020. She was born September 24, 1932 in Pigeon, Michigan to the late Otto and Lydia (Trost) Schulze. She attended Cross Day elementary and high school in Pigeon, Michigan. Mickey earned her BS in education from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio where she met her husband.

Mickey taught 3rd grade briefly, before focusing on raising her family after the birth of their first child. She was a kind and gentle soul who put family first. She rarely missed a child’s or grandchild’s sporting event or other activities.

She was always very active with her church, and was a charter member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church where she sang in the adult choir and led the children’s choir. Later, she joined Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel where she was also very active, and a volunteer tutor to children of Oak Academy.

Mickey was an accomplished gardener, enjoyed traveling in retirement, her friends at Hillcrest Country Club, and was happiest making memories with family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Normand T. Townley; her devoted children, Steve (Marianne) Townley, Rhea Trowbridge and Ann (Layton) John; her grateful grandchildren, Andrea (Gabrielli) Roselli, Kati (Mathias) Guille, Megan (Steve) Cook, Ryne Trowbridge, Collin Trowbridge, Kylie (Tyler) Roman, Halie (Bob) Opat, Courtney Thompson, Maggie Thompson, Riley John, Evan John, Dylan John and two beloved great-grandchildren, Luca Roselli and Max Guille. Mickey is preceded in death by her daughters, Amy Townley and Dr. Lisa Thompson; sister, Eleanor Tate and brother, Art Schulze.

Due to the unfortunate circumstances going on in the world today, Mickey will be laid to rest during a private burial with immediate family only on Good Friday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life is being planned for July 11. The time and place will be determined later. We know there are many who would like to pay their respects and celebrate Mickey. I know I shared a memory already, but tonight while working I was talking to a wife of my patient. While talking she kept saying "very good, very good". It reminded me of Aunt Mickey when she was playing cards and had a good hand. I remember when she and Uncle Norm came to our wedding and won the longest married dance. Such wonderful memories with Aunt Mickey!

Mickey and our family go way back to the 1970s, with her bowling with my wife, Marlene, and her involvement with school and social activities with each of our children and her children. She will be greatly missed.

I met Mickey only a few years ago in CLC 's DCL class. It was obvious, from the very start, that she was a beautiful, loving person, and so easy to love. I know she is now with God and the frightful illness will no longer be a problem. I never realized we shared the same birthday. How special.
One memory I will carry with me is when and how she said her greatest blessing was meeting Norm.

Aunt Mickey will be missed! She had such an infectious laugh and kind heart. I will always remember her love for cards and how she was willing to teach us how to play when we were younger. I'm so sorry for your loss Uncle Norm and family.

My deepest sympathy to Norm and all of Mickey's family. Mickey is a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed. I worked with Dr. Norm at Community and then had the privilege of working with Dr. Norm and Mickey as volunteers at Cornerstone Lutheran. May God grant you all His strength and peace during this time. We celebrate the great life and legacy of Mickey!
Prayers and hugs,
