Obituary of Mickey Townley
Magdalene M. “Mickey” Townley, 87, of Indianapolis, departed this life Wednesday, March 18, 2020. She was born September 24, 1932 in Pigeon, Michigan to the late Otto and Lydia (Trost) Schulze. She attended Cross Day elementary and high school in Pigeon, Michigan. Mickey earned her BS in education from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio where she met her husband. Mickey taught 3rd grade briefly, before focusing on raising her family after the birth of their first child. She was a kind and gentle soul who put family first. She rarely missed a child’s or grandchild’s sporting event or other activities. She was always very active with her church, and was a charter member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church where she sang in the adult choir and led the children’s choir. Later, she joined Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel where she was also very active, and a volunteer tutor to children of Oak Academy. Mickey was an accomplished gardener, enjoyed traveling in retirement, her friends at Hillcrest Country Club, and was happiest making memories with family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Normand T. Townley; her devoted children, Steve (Marianne) Townley, Rhea Trowbridge and Ann (Layton) John; her grateful grandchildren, Andrea (Gabrielli) Roselli, Kati (Mathias) Guille, Megan (Steve) Cook, Ryne Trowbridge, Collin Trowbridge, Kylie (Tyler) Roman, Halie (Bob) Opat, Courtney Thompson, Maggie Thompson, Riley John, Evan John, Dylan John and two beloved great-grandchildren, Luca Roselli and Max Guille. Mickey is preceded in death by her daughters, Amy Townley and Dr. Lisa Thompson; sister, Eleanor Tate and brother, Art Schulze. Due to the unfortunate circumstances going on in the world today, Mickey will be laid to rest during a private burial with immediate family only on Good Friday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life is being planned for July 11. The time and place will be determined later. We know there are many who would like to pay their respects and celebrate Mickey.
