She was born November 7th, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN. She was the daughter of the late Henrietta Jones Miller and Charles Raymond Miller, and younger sister to Sally M. Peck whom she was preceded by in death. She was married to her late husband Wallace K. Aiken Jr. for 61 wonderful years.
She is survived by four children: Wallace K. Aiken III (Tracey) of Westfield, IN; Andrew B. Aiken (Jennifer) of Pasadena, MD; Jennifer L Aiken of Indianapolis, IN; and Deborah M. Champlin (Michael) of Martinsville, IN; five grandchildren: Libby, Gordy, Andy, Barrett and Griffin; her nephews along with their families Tom Peck (Sandy) of Indianapolis, IN and Larry Peck (Sarah) of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law Roy Aiken (Shirley) of Laramie, WY, and a sister-in-law Sandra Jensen (Jeff) of Mobridge, SD.
Nancy graduated from Indiana University in 1952, with a BS in Education. She taught school in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Maine. Known by many of her friends as “Pinky”, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and held the office of Pledge Trainer for a year. She served on its House Board at both Butler University and Indiana University. She was a past-president of Children’s Bureau Auxiliary, and served on the Board of Directors of Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis. She was a long-time member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study, and was one of the two oldest members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, singing in the choir while growing up and teaching Sunday school as an adult. Nancy belonged to the Indianapolis Propylaeum, the Blue Flower Garden Club, the Glendale Library Book Club, and the Fortnightly Literary Club.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6050 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A reception will immediately follow the service which will also be held at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis, or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Indianapolis.
