Nicholas Anthony Montagano, Jr. passed away on July 23, 2023 at the age of 69. Born to Mary and Nicholas Montagano, Sr. on November 29, 1953, in Franklin, Indiana. Nick pursued a career on the railroad at an early age and excelled at the highest of levels. Nick started his railroad career in Michigan and concluded his 37-year tenure in 2009 where he retired as the Chief Engineer of the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad. During Nick’s time on the railroad, he was a proud man with a strong work ethic who had a big heart for those who worked hard.
Nick was a son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa and a coach. Of his many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He embraced his Italian heritage through his passion to serve others. Nick loved to cook. He worked on the Café Manna team at St Theresa’s in Valparaiso, Indiana, that fed the homeless.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Mary, his sister Debra, and his dog Cooper. He is survived by his wife Dara, sons Chris (wife Kaitlin, son Jack, daughter Olivia) and Alex (wife Maureen, daughter Willa, son Michael), and his dog Bentley.
