Obituary of Patricia Bartling Fleek
Patricia Ann Bartling Fleek, Age 93 August 3, 1925 – January 19, 2019 Born in Alma, Michigan to Arthur McConnell Bartling and Orpha Maude Reding Bartling, Patricia and her parents moved to a farm near Sulfur Springs, Indiana in 1931 where she spent the rest of her childhood. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School as valedictorian in 1943. Patricia then went on to Purdue University, studying Liberal Science, graduating in 1947. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and met her future husband, David Neil Fleek, Jr. while there. After Patricia’s graduation in 1947, Patricia and David married and moved to West Hartford, Connecticut. They moved to Ashville, New York in 1949, where Pamela Ruth was born. Later, they moved to Corey, Pennsylvania, and Diana Lynn was born. In 1953, they moved to Indianapolis, where David Neil, Julia Kay, and Lisa Ann were born. All 5 children graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis. While in Indianapolis, Patricia and David became active members of the Sports Car Club of America. A long-time member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Patricia served as a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, in the women’s circle, and planned a craft fair. Patricia was also an avid racecar fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR events. As her children grew up and moved, Patricia became a world traveler, including trips to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and many countries in Europe, as well as Alaska. She also made a solo trip to China. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Orpha Bartling, her four brothers, Harold, Winston, Hubert and William Evart Bartling, and her husband, David Neil Fleek, Jr. She is survived by four daughters and a son: Pamela (James) Morgan of Greenwood, South Carolina, Diana Cross of Indianapolis, David (Nobuko) Fleek of Huntington Beach, California, Julia (Cory) Lupinacci of Wixom, Michigan, and Lisa Meador (Tom) of Indianapolis. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Patricia Ruth Morgan, Jacqueline Ann Morgan, Daniel Hiro Fleek, Jennifer Hana Fleek, Jessica Lupinacci (Austin) Dobbs, Kevin Andrew Lupinacci, Justin Samuel Meador, and Thomas David Meador, and 1 great-grandchild, Peter Lawrence Dobbs.
