

Richard John Gzibovskis, 80, died December 24, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Born September 28, 1943, in Latvia, he immigrated to the United States on August 14, 1950, and lived in Indianapolis most of his life.
A graduate of Cathedral High School, Indianapolis, he continued his education at Indiana University, Bloomington. After graduation in 1967, he was employed at Johnson and Johnson, Chicago until 1976. He owned and operated Ace Hardware stores together with his family until 2008 when he retired.
He was a member of the American Latvian Association, Central Indiana Bicycling Association, Indy South Camera Club, Knights of Columbus, and parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church. He was lifelong learner and enjoyed photography, biking, scuba diving, ice skating, football, quilting, cooking, shooting, gardening, construction, and an evening cigar. In his later years, he continued to study via the internet and shared what he learned with his children, wife, friends and strangers alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janis and Ludviga (Morozs) Gzibovskis, brother, Harry Gzibovskis, and sister, Sigrida “Zigi” Heathcote.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Daina (Grabants) Gzibovskis; son, Andrew (Laura) Gzibovskis, son, Robert (Gina) Gzibovskis, daughter, Anna (Stefano) Lorenzetto; sisters, Rita (Peteris) Putelis and Inese (Peteris) Komisars; five grandchildren, Olivia Gzibovskis, Luke Gzibovskis, Emma Gzibovskis, Nicholas Lorenzetto and Samuel Gzibovskis; many nieces and nephews, brother in-law (Juris Grabants) and friends whom he loved.
Visitation for Richard will begin at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 2nd at St. Luke Catholic Church (7575 Holliday Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46260) and conclude at time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am. Interment follows at Calvary Cemetery.
