Robert J. Bargerhuff, 96, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away October 13, 2026. He was born October 18, 1929, in Chicago and raised in South Bend, IN. He graduated from Central High School. Bob served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Ann Snyder in Chicago on February 20, 1954, and they had four children together. They lived in South Bend until the late 1960s when Bob’s work took them to Indianapolis.
Bob held a myriad of jobs over the years, putting his charm and savvy business sense to good use. He drove a cab in Chicago, was a salesman for Purina and Pillsbury and then worked for many years at the Indiana State Bureau of Motor Vehicles where he was involved in setting up license branch computer systems across the state.
Outside of work, Bob’s passion was traveling with his wife, Ann. Together they made several trips to Europe, visited China twice, went to Australia, Panama and explored all over the United States. Their love of traveling strongly influenced the spirit of adventure in their granddaughters who continue this traveling tradition.
Besides traveling, Bob’s primary interest in retirement was the stock market. He belonged to several investment clubs over the years and greatly enjoyed following the market trends.
Bob’s family will remember him as a hard worker who appreciated the value of money. He was always ready to get involved in a family project, play a game of cards or tell a story about his childhood days growing up on the farm. He was proud of his children and granddaughters and especially his wife of 72 years, who he always said was the best thing to ever happen to him.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ann Bargerhuff (Nee Snyder); children, Julie Bargerhuff of Indianapolis, Bruce Bargerhuff of Indianapolis, and John (Mary Ellen) Bargerhuff of Madison, IN; grandchildren, Kate Bargerhuff of Anchorage, AK and Megan Bargerhuff of Surf City, NC. He was preceded in death by his son, Tom Bargerhuff in 1985.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holiday Dr. East, Indianapolis. Visitation will also be held at the church beginning at 10:30 AM.
