Robert Culver Coble, 59 years old, of Indianapolis, Indiana departed this life on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Rob was born December 15,1965 in Indianapolis to Thomas C. & Barbara M. (nee Evans) Coble. He was a 1984 graduate of Lawrence Central High School; he then attended Indiana University-Bloomington on a golf scholarship, earning his Economics degree in 1988. Rob was a 4-year member of the IU Golf team and a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Upon graduation from IU, Rob joined his family’s industrial and commercial real estate business. He also owned and operated C & R Roofing of Central Indiana, Inc. with his brother Mike. Rob worked side-by-side with his father and brother for over 35 years. They thoroughly enjoyed every minute they spent together while developing buildings and growing the roofing company.
Rob was a man of faith and family first and foremost. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with Sharon and the children, supporting them in all of their endeavors and coaching basketball, baseball and softball teams. Always giving of himself, he was a longtime and familiar face at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club and a reliable volunteer of his talents with the church’s annual golf outing and summer festival. Rob was also a former member of Hillcrest Country Club and current member of The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
Rob was blessed to have an amazing group of friends made through his love of golf, basketball, hunting, and poker. He played hundreds of pick-up basketball games with his buddies at the Indianapolis Athletic Club. His free throw shooting was legendary. In fact, while a student at IU, his skills twice qualified him to shoot free throws during halftime of an IU game, with the chance of winning a prize. Sadly, he didn’t win!
Rob loved late night poker games with his buddies, and as they will attest, he won more than he lost. However, his hunting skills may have rivaled his poker prowess. His bow hunting accomplishments across the country were remarkable, but just as important to him were the deep friendships he made with his fellow golf, poker and hunting buddies.
Rob had a deep love and spirit for the Western United States. He had a home in Montana where he enjoyed hunting, hiking with his family, and experiencing all things outdoors. As a loyal IU Alumni and Hoosier Hundred member, Rob has had football and basketball season tickets for many years. He loved tailgating with his family and friends, especially these last several years while his children were students. His family is forever grateful that he witnessed IU have an incredible football season!
Rob is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (nee Hellman) Coble; his children, Grace, Abigail, Lillian & Thomas Coble; his devoted parents, Thomas C. & Barbara M. (nee Evans) Coble; his siblings, Kathy (Rob) Dassow & Michael (Cecilia) Coble; his dear mother and father-in-law, Patrick (Lynne) Hellman; brother-in-law, Steve (Beth) Hellman; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Tim) Gerend & Sarah (Brad) Miller; special nieces & nephews, Reid, Jack, & Ellie Dassow, Capri & Crysta Coble, Chris, John, April, & Matt Hellman, Katie, Sadie, Andrew & Jacob Gerend; beloved aunts and uncle, Ginger Brown, Cherie Lang, and Peter Gillis, and a host of cousins and dear friends from all walks of life.
Visitation for Rob will be from 4 – 8pm on Tuesday, March 11th at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 12th at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church at Geist. Interment follows at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis.
