Dr. Rhoades, Professor Emeritus, Indiana University School of Medicine, was, until his retirement, department chair of Cellular and Integrative Physiology. He has more than thirty-five years of research experience and medical education. Rod has published numerous research papers and reviews. He has recently co-authored Mind-Body-Spirit Connections: Your Pathway to Better Health (2015). He has also authored and co-edited two medical books: Human Physiology and Medical Physiology: Principles for Clinical Medicine which is in its sixth edition.
Rod was a devoted member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and contributed to several committees focused on spiritual growth and service. He had a deep love for nature and gardening, often spending time outdoors. An avid reader, Rodney enjoyed mentoring and guiding students to reach their full potential.
He was passionate about cooking, taking classes and delighting in creating new dishes. Rodney also enjoyed skeet shooting as a member of the Crows Nest Skeet Club. Above all, he was a loving husband and father who encouraged his family to be the best they could be.
Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Ann Rhoades (Brown); daughters Annelisa (Rhoades) Bellack and Kirsi Rhoades; and grandchildren Tyler Bellack, Hallie Bellack, Annika Steiner, Quinn Steiner, Charlie Steiner, and Max Steiner.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
