Samuel James Culbertson

85, of Indianapolis, departed this life on Monday, June 24, 2024. Jim was born June 6, 1939 in Rochester, New York to the late Samuel James and Ruth (Rowley) Culbertson. He grew up and attended schools in Geneseo, New York. Jim earned his under graduate degree from the State University of New York and then earned his Master’s Degree in Telecommunications from Syracuse University. He served in the Peace Corps in Bogota, Colombia and always had an appreciation of others and their cultures.

Jim worked his entire life in radio and television broadcasting. He moved to Indianapolis in 1968 with his wife Carol and worked mostly in advertising and sales for several local radio and television stations. In his later years he served as a professor of telecommunications at Ball State University and made lifelong friendships along the way.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Budd.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol (Brairton) Culbertson; his children, Ruthie Culbertson and Jimmy (Mikako) Culbertson and grandson, Sam Culbertson.

A celebration of life for Jim will be held on Tuesday, July 16th from 4 – 7 pm at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel.
