Obituary of Stephen H. Morrall
Stephen H. Morrall, 91, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 2, 2022, following a long illness with ALS. Born in Wales on January 28, 1931 he grew up in Stafford England and immigrated to the United States at the age of 22 where he met his wife of sixty years, Gloria Saccone, while attending an event at Northwestern University Commerce Club in Chicago. Stephen is a Korean War Veteran and served in the British army and obtained a degree in mechanical engineering in England. He is a member of the business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, at Northwestern University. He became a US citizen and had a lifetime career in the consumer electronics industry with companies such as Beltone, Warwick, Admiral and eventually spending 35 years working for RCA (Thomson Consumer Electronics) rising to Vice President of Global Product planning where he was instrumental in many of the electronic advancements used across the world today from color television to the satellite dish. After retirement, he volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor and St. Vincent’s DePaul Food Pantry. He was also a member of the Stafford Old Edwards Association. He traveled the world many times over for work and with his family and instilled his passion for England and history to all. His love for family, friends, and his English garden was evident in his life. He routinely grew flowers from seeds in his basement during the winter to plant the following spring. Stephen loved the beach, parties with his extended Chicago family, and trips with his granddaughters, who at restaurants, always seemed to eat his favorite dessert, English Toffee Pudding, which he ordered in abundance. Stephen is survived by his wife, Gloria, sons Mark (Andrea), Craig (Jenny), and his treasured grandchildren, Grace, Anna Jane and Lila. His final months were managed with compassion, love and kindness from his caregivers, Geneva, Dede and Paige, and we are eternally grateful. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 10th, 11am at St Luke Catholic Church with visitation at 9:30am until the time of the Mass. The burial in Chicago is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or the St. Vincent’s DePaul Food Pantry.
