Walter R. Wellman III ("Skip") - Beloved Dad, Grandpa, widower of beloved wife Cherry Wellman (2005), and dear friend of countless people. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Skip grew up in Omaha as an active older brother to Mike & Bob Wellman. Skip then joined the Navy where he visited such places as Guam and the Phillipines on his ship, The McGoffin. Skip was honorably discharged from the Navy in November of 1963. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Creighton. He then married the love of his life, Cherry Miller, in 1969. They witnessed the Apollo 11 take-off from their honeymoon in Florida.
Skip planned to take a temporary job in Indianapolis, IN with the Hair & Scalp Clinic of Indianapolis. That "temporary" job lasted for 53 years! Over the years he acquired a plethora of friends from his clientele, his neighborhood and community.
Walter Wellman's life was defined by his absolute & unwavering dedication to his wife & 3 sons. He took his family on countless trips across the country in their family van, hopped around from game to game trying to attend all of his kids sports and activities, worked 6 days a week to provide for them - never missing a day - and gave them a wonderful life. His epic care for our mom after she contracted Multiple Sclerosis in 1990 - which made her essentially quadrapalegic for the next 15 years before her passing in 2005 - dropped the jaws of all who were aware. All day every day for 15 years - he cared for her like the Queen she was. He was the most wonderful father and person we could ask for.
Survived by sons Derek, Brian & Chris, daughters-in-law Anna & Amy Wellman and Brianna Linville, Grandkids Eli, Ty, Halle, Luke, Sydney, Liam & Lyla Wellman, and brothers Mike & Bob Wellman - and countless friends, family and neighbors who he continued to socialize and deeply bond with right up until the end of his life - Walter has left quite the amazing impression on this world and all of us who knew & loved him.
Well done, good and faithful soldier. . . Well done!
