Obituary of Wayne Lee Nicely
Wayne Lee Nicely, 82, of Indianapolis, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to all, went to join the Lord on September 15th at home surrounded by family. Wayne was born November 8, 1938 in LaPorte, Indiana to Paul and Dorothy Nicely (Arnold). He is a 1957 graduate of Shortridge High School and a 1961 graduate of Miami University (Oxford, OH) where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Upon graduation he started his career as an investment banker with Raffensperger Hughes and Company. In 1972 he married Polly Gerhardt who introduced him to the game of golf at Meridian Hills Country Club where they have been members for 49 years. Wayne was also a member of the City Club, the Great Banquet, and volunteered countless hours as a bus driver for Family Promise. He was a long time member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church. His retirement was highlighted by time spent with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all! He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ann Zinn Nicely. Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Polly Gerhardt Nicely; daughters, Beth O’Toole (Kevin), Karen Luedtke (Brian); brother, Philip Nicely (Susie) and six grandchildren, Kate and Hannah Luedtke, Ian, Paul, Abby, and Audrey O’Toole. There will be a calling at Leppert Mortuary, 740 East 86th Street on Friday, September 24th from 4pm-8pm. The funeral will be held at Meridian Street United Methodist Church 5500 N. Meridian Street at 10am on Saturday, September 25th. For those unable to attend, the church will be livestreaming the funeral on their website.
