Archibald "Cyril" MacDonald was born in Inverness, on August 15,1943. Cyril grew up in Little Judique, lived many years in Judique Central and peacefully passed on January 2, 2022 in Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
In 1963, Cyril met Barbara King at a down east dance held in the Rose Croix Hall in Boston. In 1965, they married and then moved back to Little Judique in 1967 to grow and raise their family. Survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 56 years; and by their children, Bonnie MacDonald (Bradley MacPhee)-Dartmouth, Scott MacDonald (Mary)-Toronto, Lori MacDonald (Kenny Melanson)-Truro, Lisa MacDonald-Antigonish, Kerri MacDonald (Scott Wadden)- Dartmouth, Lindsay MacDonald (Pat MacIntyre)- Judique, Erick MacDonald (Rebecca)-Ottawa, and grandchildren Spencer and Morgan MacDonald-Toronto, Luke and Matthew Melanson-Truro, Devin and Kurt MacLaughlin-Antigonish, Emma, Meagan and Mackenzie Wadden- Dartmouth and Nathaniel, Everly and Vera MacDonald-Ottawa. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Gillan-Weymouth, MA.
Cyril was predeceased by his parents, James and Jessie (MacIsaac) MacDonald and siblings,,,,, Elizabeth Ayres, Mary Christine White and Gregory MacDonald.
Cyril absolutely loved his community of Judique and, over the years, enjoyed volunteering with a variety of local groups and organizations. His children and grandchildren were a great source of pride. He especially enjoyed discussing genealogy, eating a great steak (and a butterscotch pie or two), talking politics, nice cars, money-yours not his, golf- lots of golf, listening to good music, a solid game of crib, taking long drives that included the Shore Road, ice cream and a trip to McDonalds. Dad's special buddy, Jade (his rescue cat) misses him. Dad had a quick wit and liked nothing better than a good story told with a sharp and sarcastic tongue.
The majority of his career was spent with the Municipality of Inverness and the Province of Nova Scotia, in the Community Services Department. He spoke highly of his clients and coworkers, and we have been told, "worked with a combination of compassion, professionalism and humor." He retired, after 36 years, in the position of Municipal Director of Community Services.
Our family would like to thank all who have provided words of sympathy, after Cyril's passing, along with all acts of care and compassion. Our sincere appreciation to the residents of the SeaBreeze wing of the Inverary Manor, for being good friends, in Dad's final weeks and to the care team who showed professionalism, kindness and respect. A special thank you to Dr. Bennett, Dr. Ritter and their teams for their support and guidance.
Mom, Lindsay and Pat-we especially appreciate, as did Dad, the terrific care, fun and comfort you provided for many, many years.
As Dad would often say, especially over the last few years, " I love you all very, very much."
As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday August 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrew's Church, Judique. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
