

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Alexander Joseph (Joe) MacEachern on October 4, at 90 years of age, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Broad Cove on September 3, 1925, he was the son of Angus R. and Mary MacEachern. Joe was a lifelong member of the St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church and is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary (MacLellan) MacEachern. He was predeceased by his brothers, John Dan, John, Jimmy, Malcolm, Finley and sister Mary Catherine and sons-in-law Dougie MacDonald and George MacLellan. He is survived by his children Bernice MacLellan of Oshawa, Larry (Clare) MacEachern of Mabou, Laureen MacDonald of Broad Cove and Heather (Eric) MacKay of Fort McMurray.
A gentle giant, who always had a kind word and a bright smile for everyone who knew him, he lived his life as an example to others. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren who will miss their “Papa”: Natasha, Iain, Rankin, Brea, Calum, Molly, Liam and James, and great grandchildren, Shamus, Levon and Landon in addition to several nieces and nephews. Joe was well known to everyone mainly as the rural mail driver for Canada Post, having delivered the mail for almost five decades plus having many other jobs over the years. He was also a long serving board member of the former Inverness Credit Union.
Visitation will take place at the Inverness Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7 from 2-4 and 7-9. Celebration of his life will take place on Thursday. October 8 at 11 am at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dignity Funeral Home, Inverness.
