It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Angus Howard MacDonald, 83, of Port Hood, Nova Scotia, on April 14, 2024. Howard left behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Yvonne, his much-loved sons Jason (Ann), and Jeffrey (Amy), and his two adoring grandsons Clark and Arthur.
Growing up on Company Road, Howard completed his education at Port Hood Academy, and he immediately began working for the Royal Bank in Port Hood. His career took him to Truro, Amherst, Halifax, Edmonton, Calgary (where he met his beautiful bride), New York, Toronto, Winnipeg and Ottawa. He and Yvonne ultimately returned to Port Hood to enjoy the ocean view, their family, friends, and wonderful summers, while winters were well spent in Florida. Over the last few years, Howard’s dementia cruelly forced him to give up his red Ford truck, golf, the horseraces and lawn tractor – all of which were a big part of his happy life.
Howard passed peacefully in the palliative care unit of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and palliative care team for the care he received. In lieu of flowers, donations in Howard’s name can be made to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice.
Howard, the 7th of 13 children, was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Marie (MacIsaac), his two sisters, Rita (Roddie), and Mary (Donnie), and his older brother Donald. He is survived by his siblings Frances (Alex Duncan d.), Bernadette (Jerry d.), Anne (John Francis d.), Carmelita (John Angus d.), Gerald (Judy), Rosie (Sandy d.), Georgie, (Alex Dan d.), Cecil (Mary Janet), and Lloyd (Helen).
Visitation will take place at Port Hood Resting Place on April 18 from 2:00PM – 7:00PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on April 19 at St. Peter’s Parish Church, Port Hood, where we will say goodbye to a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. One of Howard’s last complete sentences in hospital, while thinking he was in a hotel, was “I think we can afford an upgrade”. We believe he has been granted that wish.
