South West Mabou
Our wonderful father and brother has gone to be with his beloved wife. Born December 25, 1953, Angus quietly left us on January 1, 2026. Angus was the son of the late Allan Francis and Mary Ann (Beaton) MacDonald of South West Mabou. Angus is survived by his cherished children Laurel (Brett), Martha and Scott (Jayden) as well as his sisters Betty and Margie, brothers Alex, Stanley (Catherine) and Kevin (Margie), and brother-in-law John MacInnis.
Angus was predeceased by his wife, Brenda whom he loved with all that he could give. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Alanna, Anne and Joan; his brother, Bernie; brother-in-law, Wayne; and sister-in-law, Marjorie.
Angus grew up on the farm in South West Mabou, where he came to love the fields, the woods and the work. Angus initially enlisted in the Armed Forces, then worked at various jobs across the country but eventually came back to South West Mabou to carry on the traditions of his home. Angus spent many years as a woodcutter and earned a provincial award for his woodlot management. He loved the peace of working alone in his woods, supporting his family. He and his brother Alex grew and sold Christmas trees together for many years. Once Angus met Brenda, and they married, his life was complete. All was made better with the arrival of his children, to whom he was devoted. Angus and Brenda created a home with laughter and love, and after her death, Laurel, Martha and Scott, and his strong faith, gave him strength.
Angus was generous to his siblings, always ensuring the family home was open to all. He enjoyed talking hockey and sports with his brothers, and the sawmill project brought his brothers, son and nephews together on many happy days.
Angus was faithful in his belief in God and was a strongly moral man. He was also a man who loved a good story, a joke or especially a funny story from the old days. If you dropped in for a visit, you found a kind, fiercely intelligent, well-read man ready to talk about the world. Even better, when you dropped in to buy a Christmas tree your holiday cheer would be complete after a smile, hug or handshake from Angus.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday January 9, 2026, in the Port Hood and Area Resting Place. Funeral Mass to be held Saturday January 10, 2026, at 11am in St Peter's Church, Port Hood, with Father Sunny officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or the Canadian Cancer Society.
