
(Minchey) Mullendore. Charles was born March 18, 1936 in Desert TX. He graduated from Earlham College, BA and Yale Divinty School, Mas. of Div. He devoted ten years to the pastoral ministry in Conn. -years of involvement in the Peace Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, and educational programs. From then on Charles decided to continue his ministry as a “tent” minister combining his teaching and pastoral experience. In the 70s he accepted the position as Head Master of Scattergood Friends School in Iowa, a Quaker boarding school. In the late 70s the family returned to their vacation home in Kewstoke, Cape
Breton. Charles taught in local public schools and served the United Church Charge of Orangedale and River Denys. For 7 years he was Band Manager of
Waycobah First Nations, working on special projects in economic development and on land claims negotiations. During the 90s the family started two
businesses in Mabou: The Mull Cafe and Deli and Duncreigan Country Inn. These continued to be Charles' full time involvement. Charles' life was filled with his commitment to his family and to involvements in conservation, civil rights, US foreign policies, and community and international development initiatives. His first social action initiative in Cape Breton was as a plaintiff in the class action suit against Stora Kopparberg's forest management practice of spraying toxic
chemicals and herbicides on Cape Breton woodlands. Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Hinshaw Mullendore;
sons, Eric (Cari), Laredo, TX; David (Lisa Nishi), Mabou; Steven (Bonny MacIsaac), Mabou. grandchildren, Tyler, Abbagail (Ernie Peebles) and
Elizabeth; great-granddaughters, Aidan and Eleanor; sisters, Margie (Dale) Odom, Colorado; Martha (John) Storey, Massachusetts; brother, Joe, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his eldest son, John. A public open house to celebrate Charles' life will be held Saturday,
February 6th, 2016 at the Duncreigan Country Inn, 11411 Hwy.19, Mabou, NS from 2-8 p.m..
