

Christene Florence MacDonald -96, Port Hood, passed away peacefully in Inverary Manor on Thursday, March 28, 2013, where she called home for the past six years. Born in Port Hood on February 26, 1917, she was a daughter of Allan and Catherine (MacEachern) Gillis. She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Parish and for many years was a devoted member of the CWL. While widowed at a young age, she filled her life with generosity to others and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed knitting and many friends and neighbours were the beneficiary of her crafted slippers or mittens. She enjoyed visits from family and friends and especially children as she smiled when they entered her home.
She is survived by her daughter, Dolly (Ken Lavery), Belleville, Ont.; Helen (Ian Batherson), Port Hood; sons, Frank (Sheila) ,Oakville, Ont.; Leslie (Carolyn) Belleville, Ont., and Kevin (Ann Marie), Port Hood.
Nanny Florence will be greatly missed by her many neices and nephews; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1961 and an infant son; sisters, Jessie, Margaret, Tena, Annie Mae and brothers, Neil, Donald, and Alex Allan.
Visitation will be held in Port Hood Resting Place on Wednesday, April 3, at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 4 at 11 am. in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood with Fr. Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
