Christina "Christy" Belle Rankin It is with great sadness, yet great joy for a life well-lived (93 years), that the family of Christy (MacDonald) Rankin announces her passing on April 27, 2020. Mom passed away peacefully at her home in Mabou Harbour with her family by her side. Born in Hillsdale, Judique, she was a daughter of John A. “Neil the Island” and Christina (MacEachern) MacDonald. Growing up in Glengarry, Mom was surrounded by fiddle music, Gaelic songs and dancing. Mom was a great step dancer and came from a long line of quality step dancers and she carried on the tradition in her own beautiful style. Mom’s strong catholic faith was always a comfort to her. She was a beautiful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She cared deeply for each and every one of us and always extended a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved to laugh and her door was always open to visitors who never left without a cup of tea, delicious homemade bread, apple pie or a little dileag. Mom worked at Mary’s Hill Home, Mabou and was blessed with lifelong friends whom she held dear. One of Mom’s most treasured times was when her sisters came home from “away” for summer vacation. The laughs and enjoyment of being together was precious to her. She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Karen), Jackie (Darlene), Andy (Siby) and Joe; daughters, Marian (Angus MacEachern), Cathy Campbell, Margaret Ann (Paul Matheson); sisters, Theresa Gillis, Magdalen MacDonell; sister-friend, Theresa (Glencoe) MacNeil and brother-in-law, Jerome Gillis; sisters-in-law, Jean MacDonald and Mary MacDonald; grandchildren, Jackie, Jody, Jeannie, Jillian, Jordan, Amanda, Mark, Sheena, Janna, Ryan, Melissa, Daniel, Megan, Jessica, Matthew, Molly, Logan, Lisa, Andrew, Nick, Krista, Katie, Brian, Finlay and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart, as well as her four-legged companion, Rory. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Finlay Archie; daughter, Pauline Ann; son-in-law, Conrad; sisters, Annie Laurie, Katie Mae, Margie; brothers, Neil “Charles” (infant), Neil Charlie and Alex Hughie. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Sylvia and Ethel for their support, Dr. Egar, Dr. Ritter, Lori Ann, our Home Care workers and our Continuing Care nurses. Thank you to Fr. Bernie MacDonald and Fr. Danny MacLennan for their blessings and Brian MacPhee for faithfully bringing Mom the Eucharist. A celebration of Mom’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or your local food bank. Online condolences may be made to: www.invernessfuneralhome.com “A Mom’s love is blessed by God”

Christy's passing leaves a big hole in our Mabou Harbour neighbourhood. Gregory Campbell said that Christy was the first step dancer he ever saw, when he was about 11 years old, and that she was very graceful. She was one of his inspirations to take up the piano, the fiddle, and square dancing. By the time Charlotte and I knew Christy, she was no longer step dancing, but she went to every music event she could, including a few times to the Tuesday night ceilidh last summer.

Christy had such a zest for life. In July 2014 she and her friend Mary Rankin came to our wedding. The ceremony in our yard began at 3 under a hot sun. Then it was on to the Brook Village Hall (another wedding was happening at the Mabou Hall) for an evening of mingling, music, dinner, and square dancing. At about 10 Charlotte's brother-in-law noticed that Christy and Mary were leaving, and he said, "This has been a long day, no wonder you're tired." And Christy said, "We're not going home, we're going to the OTHER wedding."

My sympathy to each and everyone of Christy’s family & friends. Not having known your Mother personally, her presence in a room or gathering spoke volumes to me. A lady of tremendous strength, humility & wisdom who lived a full rewarding life. Her legacy (she can rest & be proud) has been passed along to all of you! As always, Sally R.

I wish to pass on my condolences to all the family members of Christy Rankin. (I know Cathy, Margaret Ann and Darlene) I did not know your Mom personally but heard so much about her especially from Fr. Angus. I know he will be so happy to spend more "time" with her. What a touching Obituary. She was a great Mother. I am asking Fr. Gene to have our "Zoom" Mass for your Mom on Wednesday.
