Born on September 18, 1945, Gary was the son of the late John Neil and Melanie (VandenBroeck) MacInnis. He is survived by his caring wife of 56 years, Hilary (Corser), his “3 Girls”, Lynn (Inverness), Jacqueline (Ottawa), and Carol (Norm LaBillois, Ottawa), “The Boys” of whom he was so very proud, Stephen, Gregory, and Nathan, his brothers John (Barbara Hykle, Ottawa) and his “sidekick”, Lorne (Liz, Inverness) along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his eldest brother Aloysius (Kelly, North Bay) and his sister and brother in law, Melanie and David.
Gary spent most of his teaching career in Inverness, where he also coached the high school boys’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, and girls’ track and field, many of whom won provincial titles. He will be remembered not only as a coach but as a person who had a profound influence and impact on those he coached.
Gary was always on the go and could not sit still. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies and yelling at the horses at the Inverness Raceway. He was especially proud of participating in the World Senior Games for softball.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Society of Inverness, the ICMH staff, and this wonderful community of Inverness.
