Hector "Hecky" Ryan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hector “Hecky” Ryan of Inverness after a courageous battle against cancer. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 4:20 p.m. in his home surrounded by his family, friends and loved ones. Born in Dingwall on August 28, 1945,Hecky is survived by his sons, David, Joey, Patrick and daughters, Heather and Marcella; his sibling, George (Wendy), Kevin (Karen), Connie (Sonny), Colleen (Charlie), Marion (Dougald), Murdell (Jim) and Terry (Lenny). As well as, his granddaughter, Casey with another grandchild on the way. He is predeceased by his brother, Sheldon Moore; father, Patrick Ryan; mother, Marcella Fraser-Moore; stepfather, Percy Moore; sister, Danena Cook and brother, John Ryan. In his teenage years he was enlisted in the Black Watch Reserves and throughout his life was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.132 in Inverness. He was an advocate and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for twenty-eight years. Hector was a well-known, loved and highly respected musician. His musical talent was much appreciated within the community and he was known to grab a guitar and rip out a tune at any time. He was a wonderful father of five children and a devoted grandfather “poppa”. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Matthew’s Corner Cemetery, Inverness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to St. Matthew’s Corner Cemetery, Inverness. “God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." We love you eighty miles and a hundred miles back. Rest in peace Hector Jerome Ryan, August 28, 1945 – January 29, 2013.
