It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh John MacKenzie in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on January 20th, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born in Port Hood April 16th,1938 to the late Johnny & Catherine (MacDonald) MacKenzie.
Hugh was a pipefitter by trade and worked away on several jobs. He may have been considered a jack of many trades as he was a truck driver and did mechanical and auto-body work over the years. He was always there to help anybody who needed a helping hand. He enjoyed spending time at the Inverness Raceway where he trained and drove horses over the years. He loved spending time outdoors and going for drives with his wife Sylvia. He will always be remembered as a hardworking and caring man who loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife & soul mate, Sylvia MacKenzie; for the past 56 years, along with his daughter, Darlene (Hughie), Inverness; & son, John (Tammy), Port Hawkesbury. Along with his three grandchildren Katie, Kolby & Diamond. He is survived by his sisters, Theresa & Mary (Cookie) & several nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, John Alex, Charlie, Donnie, AJ, Neil, Alex & an infant brother, Steven Alexander; sisters, Jessie Ann, Margaret, & Mary.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 4th, 2025 in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove from 10:00-10:45 am with Funeral Mass to follow at 11am. Father Dan Tshimbalanga officiating, burial to be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
